FIRST TRENDS

Vicenza, January 2008 – First, taking place between the 13th and 20th of January, is not only launching the new course of Fiera di Vicenza, ensuring that every jewellery exhibition is its own event and a unique response to market pressures. First also lends itself to the inauguration of new jewellery collections, thus mapping out new tendencies.

? Chocolat, mon amour! - Dedicated to beauty gluttons are the multiple strands of chocolate colored pearls that, from the Caribbean islands, warm the continental winters. And, together with the classic white pearl, they blend and mix to form unique chokers. The iridescent mothers of pearl remind of the South Seas and suntans, grouped as they are in warm, gianduja-colored bundles on bracelets and earrings. Hazlenut pralines instead come to mind when seeing the indolent parures, with their crystals and topazes en cabochon; so beautiful you could eat them!

? Queen for a day – Today's coolest vogue is to adorn one's head with a small tiara, or to enhance a hairstyle with a sparkling hair band. The creativity of Italian jewellery doesn't skip a beat and fashions fine, precious lines of platinum and crystals, or otherwise glittering ribbons of plain gold with entre-deux in a satin-finished strip.

? White as milk - Candid and opaque, these are the gems of January 2008. Milky agates propose new ways of wearing long necklaces à boules, while they flourish with white coral on rings and earrings in the shapes of flowers, butterflies or stars, full and curvaceous. And it's white again for the moon gem used in the latest pendants, which light up the adorner with their subtle opalescence.

? Levity - Ruffs and lace: the creations of Italian goldsmiths, who know how to fashion very refined and high class pieces. Adopting a modern stance on the all-Italian tradition of watermarking, bold designs and patterns are created when rings, earrings and pendants come to rest on the skin. Chokers are instead made lighter and rendered more precious with crystals and gems, while armbands are marked.

? The return of the cameo – After a quiet period, the cameo is staging a comeback. Models of classic artisanship are in fact regaining ground, albeit with a more modern twist. Indeed, you will not only find cameos engraved on the classic seashell; the timeless silhouettes appear on backgrounds of black onyx, green and black agate, or sardonyx, a rare type of agate in assorted reddish shades.

? Gold: not just jewels – The trend is now to touch every world: fashion and jewellery, technology and artisanship. This is how exclusive and precious items are born, such as the “goldleather” pochettes and bags, or the gold woven evening trousse. While sandals laced with strands of gold, or bustiers lined with precious metals, will not fail to feature on a high-profile evening.
